It was a typical Monday morning. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and I was already on the brink of a nervous breakdown. I trudged into the office, coffee in hand, ready to face the drudgery of another day of meetings, TPS reports, and pointless small talk with Karen in HR.
As I settled into my cubicle, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was trapped in some kind of existential nightmare. The fluorescent lights overhead seemed to mock me, a cruel reminder of the soul-sucking drudgery that lay ahead.
I glanced over at my coworker, Steve, who was busy stapling papers with a look of rapt attention. I wondered if he too felt the crushing weight of our shared existence. Was he also secretly seething with rage and resentment, just like me?
Just then, our boss walked by, a perky smile plastered on his face. "Good morning, team!" he chimed, his voice like a rusty gate. "I hope everyone is having a great day!" I felt my blood pressure spike as I forced a smile onto my face, wondering if he too was in on the joke, or if he was just as trapped as the rest of us.
